Atmos Renewables selected Enerven on October 9 to build balance of plant works for its 400MW Teebar battery energy storage project in the Australian state of Queensland, with site mobilization expected this month.
The contractor’s scope includes the design, procurement, construction and commissioning of the 1,600 MWh battery facility, a 275/33 kV substation and approximately 980 feet of 275 kV overhead transmission line connecting the project to the Powerlink Queensland transmission grid.
Enerven will also perform site preparation, local road improvements, bulk earthmoving, drainage, internal roads and foundation construction.
“Working with reliable and trusted delivery partners is important to Atmos, and Enerven is well-positioned to lead the safe and successful construction of the Teebar BESS,” Atmos Renewables CEO Nigel Baker said in a statement.
Commercial operation is planned for late 2028. The four-hour battery project is planned adjacent to Powerlink’s existing Teebar Creek substation in Queensland’s Fraser Coast region, approximately 37 miles west of Maryborough and approximately 150 miles north of Brisbane.
Enerven’s appointment follows approximately nine months of early engagement by the contractor with Atmos, battery supplier Valo and Powerlink to develop the project’s design and delivery approach.
Pre-construction work included site studies, detail engineering, management plans and permitting support. When Atmos announced the deal in December 2025, it expected construction to begin in the third quarter of 2026.

“Teebar is our first major project in Queensland and the start of a new partnership with Atmos Renewables,” Enerven CEO Richard Amato said in a statement. Enerven’s previous Australian battery work includes projects at Eraring, Torrens Island and Liddell.
Battery system and financing
Valo will supply Teebar’s battery storage technology. The company is a joint venture between Wärtsilä and RCT Solutions, combining battery hardware, software, engineering and systems integration.

The 400MW Teebar battery energy storage project is planned near Maryborough in Queensland, Australia, about 150 miles north of Brisbane. Enerven will build the plant balance works and the installation’s network connection.

Australian technology publication ChannelLife reported on October 9 that Teebar will use Valo’s GridSolve Quantum2 storage system and GEMS software and has secured generator performance standards approval for grid-forming operation in Australia’s domestic electricity market. Valo’s contract also includes a long-term service contract that covers performance guarantees, maintenance, remote operational support, software updates and performance monitoring.
Atmos reached financial close on October 2nd from Teebar. The project is supported by the Australian Government’s Capacity Investment Scheme, which provides long-term revenue support for renewable generation and distributable energy projects. Atmos will retain ownership during construction and operate the facility upon completion.
“The CIS provides significant long-term revenue support, but an award is only one step,” Baker said in a statement announcing the financial close. “Projects still need to secure funding, network access, wider commercial agreements and a credible delivery pathway.”
Atmos is backed by Igneo Infrastructure Partners, which also invests in renewable energy construction in the United States. In June, Igneo invested in US developer Pathway Power, which has more than 1GW of projects expected to start construction in 2026 and 2027.
Public commitments associated with the federal program call for approximately $105.4 million in purchases in Australia and New Zealand prior to commercial operation, including approximately $796,000 in locally procured steel. Atmos estimates that the construction’s maximum employment is between 100 and 150 workers. Total project contract values have not been disclosed due to commercial sensitivities.
Representatives from Atmos, Enerven, Valo and Powerlink are scheduled to meet at the Teebar site on October 20 for a ceremony marking the start of construction.
