When complete, the I-405/Brickyard at SR 527 improvement project will improve four and a half miles of the corridor, primarily in Bothell, Washington, north of Bellevue.
The $834 million project is a collaboration between WSDOT, Sound Transit and design-build contractor Skanska USA Inc.
Josh Barrios, Skanska’s senior director of environment, health and safety, captured part of the demolition earlier this year on his iPhone 16.
Several overpass ramps, loop ramps and bridges are to be removed at the I-405/SR 522 interchange to allow for the construction of two new bridges.
As a security officer, Barrios is often on site for these operations. “As someone who is in and around the workplace on a daily basis, capturing a moment like this brings great pride and excitement for the work to come,” he says.
The project is expected to complete construction in 2028.
