Erik Verboon, facade engineer and Walter P Moore Senior Director, dies at the age of 46

Erik Verboon, a principal director of the Walter P Moore Design Firm and director of his precincts engineering practice in New York City, died on September 21 at the age of 46. No cause of death was disseminated, but he died “unexpectedly”, according to a background place for his wife, Michelle Verboon. His death was also announced by the firm and in the necrological warnings.

Verboon co -founded the New York Office of Walter P Moore and helped to build the national company’s national practice, where he was widely known for advancing the design and delivery of complex envelopes of high -performance buildings, said that the firm, which described him as a “ dynamic, mentor and creative leader ” whose portfolio encompassed various sectors and geographies.

Trained in both architecture and engineering, Verboon specialized in high -performance systems, double -skinned and other custom united systems, as well as geometrically complex compound facades used in new buildings and retrofits.

Before joining Walter P Moore, he led facade engineering teams in Buro Happold in New York, and also taught enclosures at the Pratt Institute, the University of Pensilvania, Columbia University and the Stevens Institute of Technology, according to the firm.

The name of Verboon is attached to several high -profile projects. He was listed as the leader of the project team at the new Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport terminal in Kenner. The architect’s newspaper As a key voice in the design of Allianz Field in St. Paul, where Walter P Moore designed the PTFE facade of the stadium. The New York firm’s office also contributed to important places such as Chase Center in San Francisco, a project that personally stood out in the industry forums. While with Buro Happold, Verboon was also presented on the double -skinned podium facades in the media area of ​​Abu Dhabi

Verboon received a degree in Architecture at the University of Cincinnati in 2003 and a Master in Engineering from the Stevens Technology Institute in 2007, according to the family necrological. At the beginning of his career, he worked with Michael Mcinturf Architect.

The communication points have described Verboon as a main figure at the intersection of architecture and engineering, emphasizing their impact on the tutoring of younger professionals through the programming of conferences and workshops. Recent listings show him chairing a stadium development panel at New York Build Expo in March.

Walter P. Moore said that their “experience, creativity and visionary approach” guided the teams and customers for more than two decades.

A celebration of life is expected, with details that the family will announce, according to a notice on Legacy.com.
