NextEra Energy Resources and Brookfield plan to build a data center campus with a 2GW natural gas-fired plant and a 2.6GW battery energy storage system (BESS) at the former Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Paducah. The scope includes the construction of the building space; purchase and erection of structural steel and fuel storage tanks; installation of turbines and generator sets and battery storage modules; Procurement and installation of uninterruptible power and power distribution systems, standby power generators, ground cable tracks and overhead cable trays, a fiber optic backbone, cooling systems, power wiring, circuit breakers, isolators, transformers, switchgear, cooling towers, and water treatment and emission control equipment. The data center will have a maximum critical power capacity of up to 1.8 GW. A construction schedule is being developed; the project is expected to be completed in 2032. Sila Nanotechnologies plans to expand its anode manufacturing facility in Moses Lake. The estimated $1.4 billion project includes the purchase and installation of reactors, conveyors, gas storage vessels, filters, baghouses, water purifiers and cooling, wastewater treatment, raw material storage, mixing, coating, forming, drying, cutting, testing and packaging equipment and systems. The expansion will increase silicon-carbon anode production capacity to 10 GWh per year, expandable to 250 GWh per year by 2031. A project schedule is being developed.
