Employees, partners and community members gathered Friday at Komatsu’s (OTC: KMTUY) Newberry Manufacturing Operation (NMO) in South Carolina to celebrate 25 years of operations.
The celebration featured a special anniversary model of the WA485-11 wheel loader, one of the newest wheel loaders manufactured at the plant.
Rod Bull, CEO of Komatsu North America, called the milestone significant and a “testament to the dedication, skill and commitment” of its employees.
Opened in 2001, NMO became Komatsu’s fifth major manufacturing facility in North America. The site originally assembled backhoes, but later expanded to include wheel loaders and forklifts.
A quarter of a century later and NMO has grown from 22 employees in 2001 to more than 250 today. The facility itself has also grown from about 18,500 square meters to more than 27,800 square meters. Komatsu says more than 53,000 machines have been manufactured at NMO since it opened.
“From the facility’s beginnings with a small team producing backhoes to the diverse manufacturing operation it is today, Newberry’s success has been built by the people who come to work every day focused on delivering quality products and continually improving what we do,” Bull said.
