Newly acquired Phoenix contractor picks vice president of business development

Phoenix-based commercial contractor Chanen Construction has named Dean Howard as vice president of business development to help lead the newly merged company, the company announced in an Oct. 9 press release shared with Construction Dive .

The company was acquired last year by Helena, Montana-based Dick Anderson Construction, which said the purchase would help it expand outside its home region and into the commercial, industrial and infrastructure segments in Phoenix and the Southwest.

In this role, Howard will work closely with Steve Chanen, president and CEO of Chanen, and Marty Schuma, president and CEO of Dick Anderson, to help unify the construction expertise of the two companies, according to the release. Chanen will continue to build commercial projects and continue to work construction of the University of the Midwest in Downers Grove, Illinoisincluding classroom and laboratory spaces and the Phoenix theater expansion, which entails a new building with 500 seats and other facilities.

“I am excited about the opportunity to use my relationships and unique skill set to be a part of continuing to build on Chanen’s multi-decade legacy as one of Arizona’s premier builders,” Howard said in the statement.

Previously, Howard served as director of business development at Sacramento, California-based Alston Construction, as vice president of business development at Mount Laurel, New Jersey-based contractor Hill International, and as director of business development at Rosendin Electric, based in San Jose, California. , according to his LinkedIn.

Prior to his 25 years in the construction industry, Howard worked as a public affairs and lobbyist for the City of Phoenix and the City of Goodyear, Arizona in various roles including economic development and finance, according to the communicated He has a bachelor’s degree in business management from Arizona State University, according to LinkedIn.
