As constructions in the booming semiconductor and advanced technology sectors gain more prominence, Suffolk is strengthening its market presence with a new hire.

The Boston-based contractor has brought on industry veteran Clem Wood as the company’s executive vice president of advanced technology, according to a press release shared with Construction Dive.

The move reflects the company’s commitment to expanding into what it calls high-growth, advanced technology sectors. Wood will focus on projects in semiconductor manufacturing, offsite manufacturing, electric vehicle and battery production, precision manufacturing and other high-growth technology markets tied to the US relocation effort.

Wood brings 30 years of experience in design, offsite manufacturing and program management, according to the release.

Most recently, Wood was Senior Vice President and Emerging Markets at SSOE Group in Toledo, Ohio. While there, he worked with some of the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturers on engineering and construction strategies and shaped project delivery.

“As companies invest to bring semiconductor manufacturing back to the US, Suffolk has built a dedicated roadmap to serve these highly specialized projects,” said Pat Lucey, president of Suffolk’s Northeast and National Centers of Excellence. “Clem’s deep technical background and decades of client-side experience make him the ideal leader to help us scale this effort.”

In fact, semiconductor and advanced technology projects are a booming industry like the multi-million dollar projects continue all over the country An emblematic project – Micron’s next semiconductor megafab in Onondaga County, New York, is priced at a whopping $100 billion.

But this settlement plan has encountered setbacks and obstacles along the way: the on-again, off-again nature of President Donald Trump’s tariffs price uncertainty has increased for builders. Friday, the Supreme Court rolled back many of Trump’s tariffsfurther muddying the waters around the issue.
