The Inspiring Women 2023 awards recognize great achievements

After a day of informative panel sessions and networking opportunities, this year’s Inspiring Women in Construction and Engineering Awards, organized by Construction news i New Road Engineerrecognized individuals and teams who have made outstanding contributions to gender diversity.

A panel of 42 judges whittled down a record number of entries to a shortlist of 139 individuals and organisations, before choosing the winning entries in 15 categories. These range from Technical Excellence and STEM Champion to Allyship Champion of the Year and inspiring women leaders from the supplier, consultant and contractor communities.

The winners (see below), announced on 10 October at the awards ceremony at the Leonardo Royal London Hotel in St Paul’s, demonstrated a focus on improving EDI and encouraging the development of women in construction and the engineering

Rising Star – Contribution to a project: Katie Klaveness, Morgan Sindall Construction

Rising Star – Technical Excellence: Emma McGregor, Tony Gee and partners

Rising Star – Contribution to Gender Diversity: Abigail Brierley, Laing O’Rourke

Excellence in outreach (sponsored by Arcadis): Social Value Team, Willmott Dixon Interiors

STEM Champion: Jemma Quin, Robertson Group

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Initiative of the Year (sponsored by Finning): Arcadis – Women of Color Program, Global Sponsorship and Gender

Allyship Champion of the Year: Emma Nicholson, Pick Everard

Women’s Network of the Year (sponsored by Strabag): Bold As Brass Women’s Network

Contribution to a project: Eileen Mackin, South East Scotland Hub

Technical excellence: Emma Shakespeare, Sir Robert McAlpine

Contribution to gender diversity: Meshi Taka, Waterman Aspen

Excellence in Senior Leadership (sponsored by Willmott Dixon): Keltbray Highways, M621 Junction 1-7

Inspirational Leader – Supplier: Nina Cardinal, Heidelberg Materials
