The need for skilled AI talent is driving up salaries

  • Interest in the generative adoption of AI has led companies to seek workers with related skills, but lIn-demand talent will require competitive wages as the market heats up.
  • Average salary for an AI engineer grew 12% from last quarter, according to tech salary tracker data analysis Comprehensive.io. Now, the average salary is around $188,000 for AI engineers, 21% superior to non-AI software engineers.
  • The number of AI-related job openings increased 22% in the past three months compared to the previous quarter, as enterprise generative AI plans require technology leaders to recruit skilled talent, according to an analysis of 5,000 US technology companies.

Diving knowledge:

Ask a tech leader about generative AI and they’ll likely emphasize that this technology isn’t new. The recent flurry of interest, however, has executives adjusting their playbooks.

From prioritizing investments in generative to ambitious AI training initiativescompanies in all industries are working to use technology effectively and gain a competitive advantage.

In turn, the need for skilled AI talent only seems to increase for organizations embarking on an adoption journey and vendors looking to capitalize on business interest.

Over the past three months, 579 tech companies have listed nearly 2,000 AI-related job openings, according to the data. Common titles include machine learning engineer, AI engineer, machine learning scientist, and computer vision engineer.

Emerging technologies accounted for more than a quarter of all tech job openings in September, with more than a third of those positions requiring AI skills, according to a CompTIA analysis data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
