The delivery of the project to the redevelopment of White Stadium in the historic Boston Franklin Park will be delayed. It Public-Private Association of $ 200 million It will not be completed in time because the city’s national women’s expansion team in the city will occupy it for the 2026 season, as initially planned.

Boston Legacy FC will play its inaugural season at Gillette Stadium, the Foxborough, Mass., Home of the New England Patriots of the New England League and the Major League Soccer’s New England Revolution.

The delay, announced on May 21, took place after a group opposed to the project presented a call to a judge’s sentence that the project does not violate the state law for the protection of the park.

According to media reports, the first white stadium could be ready would be in the middle of summer 2026. Instead of making a half-season change from White Stadium to Gillette Stadium, the team decided to wait until the 2027 season to move to the new stadium. According to the team agreement with the city, the stadium will also be used for the athletics of Boston’s public school. All electric stadium could be ready on time for BPS athletes to play in the autumn season 2026.

Bond Building Construction Inc., a half -risk construction manager of the city project, began work on the project on January 6 and is almost completed by demolition work, according to media reports.

The Boston Planning and Development Authority approved a renewal design of Stantec of the 76 -year -old Stadium in 2024. The renewed installation will include interior and exterior facilities with changing rooms, a sports medicine suite, an grass professional field, an eight -lane court and community event spaces, said the mayor. Other advantages include the opening of more than one green space for public use, fixing some of the drainage problems, new comforts, new roads and lighting, new community cuisine, access to public baths and collection space.

This project also involves planting more than 500 trees, the largest planting in the history of the city.

The delay of the project was a welcome news story for the project’s opponents.

“This news is a relief for the communities of the Franklin Park, which have been alarmed by the hurry driven by benefits to turn white stadium into a professional sports complex,” said Melissa Hamel, of the Franklin Park community group Defenders, who is against the project, said in a statement published in Boston Globe. “We hope that longer allows for a re -evaluation of the defective plan to build a sports and entertainment complex of 11,000 places in the middle of a park, without parking and limited access of traffic.”

The main supporter of the project, Mayor Michelle Wu, faces a challenge of re -election by Josh Kraft, son of New England Patriots and the owner of the New England Revolution Robert Kraft. The Kraft group, which seeks to build a specific football stage for the Revolution on the Boston border in Everett, has gone to mediation with the city after community mitigation negotiations were stopped, according to Boston Herald.

The young Kraft, who has criticized the White Stadium project, says that he will be recused from the community’s mitigation negotiations if he is elected mayor.
