The West Point Graduate Association awarded Turner Construction Co. a $133.5 million construction manager contract for the upcoming $170 million Michie Stadium preservation project at the US Military Academy in West Point, New York, the contractor recently announced. Work is scheduled to begin next month.

The 38,000-seat stadium was originally built in 1924. It is home to the Army Black Knights football and lacrosse teams, as well as other campus events.

The scope of the project includes the demolition of the current east bleachers, which were built in 1962 and lack modern amenities according to the alumni association. In its place, the project team will build a 160,000-square-foot structure with new seating options, such as suites, plus a section of Corps of Cadets seats that runs the length of the field and improved concessions.

The project also includes landscaping and the creation of a new pedestrian plaza between the east stands and Lusk Reservoir, which is located behind the stands.

EwingCole is leading the design of the project.

As ENR previously reported, the site presents challenges with space and security issues associated with a military installation. Luigi Morfea, Turner’s construction executive, said in a statement that the team developed a logistical plan to address those issues and keep Michie Stadium open for football and lacrosse during construction.

The project is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2026, in time for the following football season.
