Two people have been treated by paramedics after a crane collapsed on a building site in Edinburgh this morning.

The arm of a Jaso J380PA jib crane, owned and operated by Falcon Tower Crane Services, fell on the Stead’s Place residential development shortly before 9.30am today (November 28).

Emergency services were called to the scene in Leith shortly afterwards. The Scottish Ambulance Service said it sent two ambulances and its special operations team to the scene, where they treated two patients.

The scheme is being built by Collab Construction, a division of project developer Drum Property Group.

Firefighters have also been dispatched to the scene. A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “Operations control mobilized four fire appliances and four specialist resources, where crews worked to support their partners.

“Firefighters left the scene after making sure the area was safe.”

A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive said the regulator was aware of the incident and was making enquiries.

Construction on Stead’s Place began in July 2022 and is due to be completed by the middle of next year. The plan will include 110 rental homes on a 2.9-hectare former industrial estate.

A spokesman for Falcon Cranes said: “We will carry out the most comprehensive investigations to understand what caused the collapse.

“However, we can say that at this time we are not aware of any defects in the crane itself.”

Metnor Construction, which went into administration in February, was the previous main contractor on the project.
