A couple of American companies have received key contracts for the estimated $ 7.2 million from King Salman International Airport in Riad, Saudi Arabia, which would be the largest in the world.
The King Salman International Airport Development Co., (Kiadc), Part of the sovereignist wealth fund of Saudi Arabia, Delivery Members Agreements announced with Bechtel and Parsons in the Saudi-U-US Investment Forum on May 13.
“Our company continues according to the calendar to complete various executive works for buildings and infrastructure, ensuring that the airport is ready to accommodate travelers as soon as possible,” said Marco Meji, CEO of Kiadc, Marco Meji.
Delivery partners have been used in many of the largest projects in Saudi Arabia and involve helping the owner through project management, design management, cost consultation and hiring advice.
King Salman International Airport (Kia) would be built around the current King Khalid International Airport and will cover 22 square miles and would include six parallel tracks. The kingdom has pointed by 2030 by The expansion It ends, with the airport that can accommodate 120 million passengers a year. By 2050, it is estimated that the figure will occur up to 185 million, according to officials.
The Riyadh Infrastructure event was attended by President Donald Trump, where he gave a commitment of $ 600 million to Saudi Arabia to invest in the United States. Investments would include energy security fields, defense industry, technological leadership and access to world and critical worldwide infrastructure.
As part of the agreement announced, Bechtel will manage the development of three terminals: a new terminal dedicated to commercial airlines, a new terminal 6 and a third terminal for private aviation, which will include aircraft maintenance facilities. The terminals absorb or replace all existing facilities of King Khalid International Airport.
“The Kia project represents one of the most prominent aviation projects in the world currently in developing,” said Darren Mort, President From Bechtel’s Infrastructure Business. “We are happy to be part of this inspirational project and to contribute to our previous experience of major airports around the world by realizing the airport vision and offering an unprecedented and unprecedented travel experience worldwide.”
Parsons received two four -year delivery contracts developing airport critical infrastructure and providing comprehensive project management services. The firm will have the responsibility of the design, permission, contracting, construction and launch from the initial planning to the final delivery, according to officials.
The reach of contracts includes air facilities, such as tracks, taxis, airplane parking areas and air traffic control tower, along with terrestrial infrastructure, including roads, tunnels, bridges, railway networks and landscaping.
Infrastructure experience
Both Bechtel and Parsons have long records with aviation infrastructure in the Middle East.
Bechtel was a designer, project manager and head of the construction of the Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates, as well as at King Khalid and King Fahd Airports in Saudi Arabia. Parsons has worked on numerous aviation projects in the Middle East, including Zayed International Airport and Sharjah International Airport at the United Arab Emirates, Hamad International Airport in Qatar and Kuwait International Airport.
The two companies are the second and third major American company that participate in the Riyadh project. Last year, four design companies, including Jacobs, based in the United States, signed strategic collaborations to develop the mega-airport.
Jacobs i Foster + Partners, based on the United Kingdom, provide the validation of the concept master plan, the detailed design of the master plan, the design of the court and other services. The two companies previously won a competition to design the master plan for the airport. Mace Group, based on Saudi Arabia, the project delivery partner will focus on planning and construction schedules. Nera, based in the kingdom, will provide technical and operational solutions for aviation and air navigation.
The airport’s expansion plan was announced by Prince Colonel of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Bin Salman, in 2022. The project is part of the extensive Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to diversify Saudi Arabia far from its dependence on oil revenue.
The Plan, introduced in 2016, calls for Saudi Arabia to be a regional logistics center in part by increasing air connectivity to 250 destinations and transporting 330 million passengers. Since then, various airport expansions have been presented and a new construction throughout the kingdom.
The project is one of the two developing megaports in the Middle East. Last year, Dubai announced a $ 35 million plan to expand the Maktoum International Airport for the next ten years. The new airport, also known as Dubai World Central, would replace the existing Dubai International Airport, currently the most busy world in the world for international traffic.
The United Arab Emirates project would exceed the effort of Saudi Arabia, expanding the second largest airport in the emirate to cover 27 square kilometers and will include five parallel runways. The four terminals will host 400 doors, allowing the installation to manage up to 260 million passengers and more than 13 million tons of load a year.
