In another sign of the booming market for data center construction, semiconductor projects and technology-focused work, San Francisco-based contractor Webcor LP said it would acquire GCON, a Phoenix construction management company, with completion expected in the fourth quarter.

Details of the transaction were not disclosed.

“This is an exciting opportunity for Webcor to expand our portfolio and enter previously untapped markets,” said President and CEO Matt Rossie. “GCON brings a wealth of experience in the technology sector.”

The CM company specializes in technology-driven construction, highlighting “active mission-critical environments in 10 states” that will expand Webcor’s experience and customer base to compete for larger, more complex projects.

For GCON, the deal opens up access to financial support from Webcor’s parent company, Japan-based contractor Obayashi, enabling larger-scale projects and geographic expansion.

“This strategic relationship allows both companies to leverage their respective strengths,” said Mike Godbehere, CEO of GCON.

GCON will continue to operate “under its current leadership and brand,” but the companies did not note any new titles for Godbehere.

The company was established in 2003, has about 200 employees and claimed revenue of $325 million by 2024. Webcor ranks 122nd on ENR’s Top 400 Contractors list, with revenue of $1.12 billion last year.
