Energy company Venture Global has signed an engineering, procurement and construction contract with Australian contractor Worley for the second phase of the Calcasieu Pass 2 LNG export terminal project in Cameron Parish, La., the developer said in a Jan. 30 federal filing.

The value of the contract was not disclosed, but Worley will receive a “reimbursable sum” for work on the second phase, which will include design, engineering, procurement, construction management, testing, studies and related services, with Financial details will be released in next quarter’s earnings presentation, Venture Global said.

Worley is also the EPC contractor for the first phase of the project at its 1,150-acre site, with work underway since last summer after a final investment decision of $15.1 billion was reached. Venture Global said the final investment decision on the second phase is set for mid-year.

The first phase will have a nominal capacity of 14.4 million metric tons of LNG per year, with a capacity for the second phase of 5.6 million tpa, according to Venture Global filings. The latter will include ten liquefaction trains and two storage tanks of 200,000 cubic meters. A pipeline from Texas is also proposed.

The project is being designed for a potential maximum capacity of 28 million tpa, according to the documents, and could cost up to $28 billion, according to a Venture Global. But it has also faced environmental opposition and added review from the courts and federal regulators.
