Poettker Construction, located in Breese, Illinois, uses his drones as “Jack of All Trades” tool, according to the company’s internal operator. Inspection, marketing, photography and security are perfectly adapted to Poettker’s Drone program, which the builder announced in February.
Already, the people of land and the office of the border the voice pay dividends.
Here, Charles Wilson, Vice President of Risk Management Poettker, and Logan Decker, who runs the Drone program, talk about construction of construction on his origins, such as the firm overcome obstacles and tips for curious builders on drones.
Publisher Note: This interview has been published for brevity and clarity.
Construction division: How did the Drone de Poettker begin?
Charles Wilson: Using external resources can cost -and at some point there is an investment performance if you invested in your Drone teams and their own operators. In addition, there is an advantage in having control over the data and being able to do more with the data you collect.
When the decision came to whether or not we had a drone and drone operator at home, it wasn’t really an idea.

We decided that we wanted this to live in our risk management department, because we felt that teams had the opportunity to reduce our re -elaboration and also to promote the labor that is being launched and, in general, to make people safer.
When we sat down and analyzed that internally, we also realized that we were able to support other initiatives and how we execute them, those who are security, quality and production.
How does technology unfold in these areas?
Wilson: Safety, we can do high position inspections without having to have a natural person accessed. We can inspect our project sites and identify the dangers of the air.
With quality, we can fly our projects and make our quality staff review the images of the definable characteristics of the work. This allows our staff to cover more of our projects at the same time while reviewing the quality of the work being implemented in real time.
There is also the appearance of marketing, which is mainly what we are using photography.
What was it like to implement the program in the workplace?
Logan Decker: Whenever you implement technology to supervise safety and quality and all these different things for which we use it, you get used to a little budget, but so far it has been quite good.

We are trying to make people know that they are there for use whenever they need it. At first it does not always reach the mind of everyone. Normally, they will go to what they have trusted in recent years or even longer, until we can lead home that the drone is here for your use and position, whatever. Then grows slowly and constantly the number of flights and frequency.
Wilson: I think something that could be very easy to find, especially when you start a program like this, is that you do not know what you do not know. Logan started in June, so we don’t even have a year to have this program, but there is a lot of buzz.
I think we may not have planned to take off as quickly as he did. In fact, we had to present our own programming solution to ensure that everyone is receiving the service they require in a timely manner.
We must remember too, because the team is so robust and has a benefit that we do not want to overcome -because we still learn it. We are still learning not only the teams, but the capabilities and the perfecting.
And sometimes, we must remember -we are a construction company that has drones. We are not a drone company that makes the construction.
If you started this program again, what would you do differently?
Wilson: When it comes to technology, it moves quickly and changes rapidly. I would say there are several times, since we have been going through this process that we have tried something and we had to adjust it or change it. It is a part of adaptation and overcoming.
Some tips I would give to someone is that you understand the needs of your company and your client’s needs and set the purchase with your stakeholders.
I think it was quite central to us when we bought the team, we also bought training from the team. In fact, they sent the instructor and did physical training here in our facility with Logan, and this was really critical to us to understand not only the capabilities of the teams, but also the capabilities of Logan and see our money we spent in use.
Decker: Would keep changes to drone software. Are constantly updating. I do not know how many times it has happened, where I will have an updated drone in the field, prepare -to fly and then another update is pressed.
Ensure -you keep up to date and how they work and how they can provide us with better information or allow us to process information more efficiently: more keep you at the top of these things, the best product breaks to you and your team members, and then your customers and interested parties.
