Gulfport, Mississippi-based contractor AnderCorp recently broke ground on the $270 million Alive! Casino and hotel project in Bossier CityLouisiana, according to a Jan. 8 press release shared with Construction Dive.
The general contractor was selected to oversee the construction of a 47,000-square-foot casino; a 25,000-square-foot entertainment and event center; 30,000 square feet of dining and entertainment venues; and a 550-room hotel with a resort-style pool and fitness center.
The complex was approved in October 2023 and construction is in full swing. It is scheduled to open in 2025, according to the release.
AnderCorp also provided pre-construction services, design review and managed the initial demolition of the former Diamond Jacks Casino property over the past year in preparation for the new project. When completed, the new complex will feature more than 1,000 slot machines and more than 40 live action table games, including poker.
It is being developed by The Cordish Cos., a Baltimore-based entertainment and real estate development company that has built casino entertainment complexes in Florida, Maryland and Pennsylvania. The Cordish Cos. said the Louisiana project will create 750 new construction jobs.
Hotel construction perspectives
A recovery of the hospitality industry coupled with an increase in consumer confidence has led hotel companies to prepare their construction pipelines. Luxury and luxury hospitality projects flourished last year and dominated the U.S. hotel construction portfolio, while mid- and long-stay renewals also increased.
Hotel executives said they expect hospitality conversions and development to stay strong in 2024, with a host of high-profile projects set to open. Many new hotels will cater to the growing number of travelers looking for luxury, sustainable stays and adventures and experiences.
However, the hotel financing environment poses a constant challenge to building new projects, Noah Silverman, director of global development for the US and Canada at Marriott International, told Hotel Dive.
