In recent years, few private construction project owners have made as significant an impact on the construction industry and the economy of the Southwest region as Intel Corp.

As previously reported by ENR, Intel Corp.’s two semiconductor plants. under construction at its existing campus in Chandler, Arizona, which are expected to come online later this year, are intended to help ease the microchip shortage in the United States. As expected, the $20 billion project, which broke ground in October 2021 and topped ENR Southwest’s Top Starts in 2022 ranking, is having a significant impact on the construction industry in the South- west, both in terms of construction opportunities and the economy in general.

With this project adding two manufacturing facilities: Fab 52 and Fab 62, Intel’s 700-acre Glendale, Arizona campus will now contain a total of six plants. The company says the expansion will help the US regain ground in semiconductor manufacturing and ease supply chain problems related to microchips.

According to Intel, the construction of these two new factories “represents the largest private sector investment in Arizona’s history,” while generating an estimated 3,000 construction jobs, the creation of approximately 3,000 new work in the company and support for an estimated 15,000 indirect jobs in the company. community

For these reasons, ENR publishers across the country have voted to name Intel Corp. as the 2024 owner of ENR Southwest. More details and insights on Intel’s efforts in Arizona will be included in ENR Southwest’s profile story in the upcoming March 25 print edition.
