NCCER Information Center

The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), today announced the launch of CraftPro®, its innovative online craft training tool designed to enable contractors, regardless of size, to train and improve their teams. NCCER believes this will revolutionize construction education, giving contractors the ability to choose the specific training their employees need without the cost of an on-site trainer or the expense of taking workers off the job site. This new solution addresses a need in the construction industry as many contractors struggle with the logistics of delivering effective training programs while facing a record backlog amid a labor shortage.

Research shows that craft training results in a substantial return on investment through increased productivity, rework and reduced employee turnover. More importantly, according to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), lack of training is the leading cause of workplace injuries. With CraftPro, this training is made easily accessible to all contractors and their employees.

“The labor shortage is an industry-wide problem, but the real challenges are being felt by individual contractors as they see fewer qualified candidates applying for open positions. They need to be able to build better teams,” said Boyd Worsham, NCCER President and CEO. “CraftPro will enable more businesses to invest in their people through self-directed learning and shape the skilled workforce your business needs for the specific types of work they do.”

CraftPro courses are self-contained and mobile-friendly, allowing people to train when they have time, no matter where they are. Rich instructional videos, in English and Spanish, delivered by industry experts, walk students through challenging concepts and demonstrate practical skills for key competencies. Courses also include interactive activities to expand and reinforce knowledge, tips for practicing experiential skills, self-review quizzes to ensure students understand concepts and help them practice for the course test, and contractor performance assessments to assess increased field performance.

With a library of trades and courses, contractors can choose exactly what they need their training in. This initial launch includes a full offering of electrical and plumbing courses, with a range of concrete, carpentry and plasterboard courses included and more to come in the coming months. Additional crafts and courses for key disciplines are currently being developed and will be available in the near future.
