Construction Dive’s Friday Punch List is a series dedicated to sharing the top building headlines that contractors may have missed during the week. ​

It was another busy week for construction news.

JE Dunn Construction announced it expanding its group of advanced technology with a power generation unit, internally promoting a new leader to head it. Meanwhile, the monthly construction expenditure report showed it non-residential construction expenditures would be reduced if not for data centers.

Turner marks the completion of the $112 million back-to-school

With Labor Day upon us, back-to-school season is in full swing. Turner Construction marked the occasion by celebrating the graduation from Central Middle School in GreenwichConnecticut, according to a press release Tuesday.

New York City-based Turner provided construction management services for the $112 million, 135,000-square-foot facility that includes energy-efficient systems and advanced electrical and plumbing technologies, according to the announcement. the school received its first students last weekaccording to Greenwich time.

“This milestone reflects the collaboration and dedication of Greenwich Public Schools, the City of Greenwich, our business and design partners and the many skilled individuals who brought this project to life,” Chad McCullough, Turner’s vice president and general manager, said in the statement. “We are honored to help create a learning environment that will serve students and educators for generations.”

NYC DOB launches overdose prevention campaign

The Big Apple has moved to combat the overdose epidemic affecting construction this week.

The New York City Department of Buildings and NYC Health + hospitals marked International Overdose Awareness Day on Monday, using the marker as an opportunity to address construction workers. The industry historically faces one of the highest rates of fatal drug overdoses of any profession in New York City, according to a DOB statement Monday.

The on-site effort included a free naloxone kit along with training on how to administer it in the event of an overdose.

The DOB has also incorporated mental health and substance abuse awareness training as a prerequisite to acquiring a site safety training card, required for workers on larger and more complex construction sites. According to Local Law 10 of 2026, which went into effect in May, it mandated training that includes topics related to mental health and wellness, suicide risk, and prevention and misuse of alcohol and substances.

ABC names former state labor official vice president of workforce

Constructors and Contractors Associates has selected Tiffany robinson, former Maryland State Secretary of Labor, as a new staff executiveaccording to a Monday press release. Robinson will join the ABC as vice president of workforce and safety policy to lead research, policy and strategic initiatives designed to advance health and safety.

Robinson served as Maryland Secretary of Labor from 2019 to 2023 under former Gov. Larry Hogan. She pioneered Maryland’s skills-based hiring initiative, which eliminated requirements for four-year degrees for thousands of state jobs, according to ABC.

Robinson later joined Governor Glenn Youngkin in Virginia as a deputy chief of staff in 2023according to her LinkedIn, before becoming director of the Virginia Department of Railroads and Public Transportation in 2024.

McCarthy and Caddell announce executive changes

McCarthy Building Cos. and Caddell Construction announced a series of executive moves in late August, according to press releases sent to Construction Dive.

McCarthy, based in St. Louis, promoted Nayan Bhakta to president of its national renewable energy group, which focuses on solar energy storage and battery system projects across the country. Bhakta, who joined McCarthy in 2014, previously served as the company’s chief operating officer and succeeds Dhruv Patel, who was recently promoted to COO of McCarthy Holdings, the general contractor’s parent company, according to the Aug. 28 announcement.

Caddell named Ike Keene senior vice president of commercial and Nathan Raycroft senior vice president of government, according to a news release Monday. The Montgomery, Ala.-based company also named Brian Rogers as construction executive and Tom Csicsila as vice president of sales in its Atlanta office.

Keene, who joined Caddell in 2021, has been instrumental in growing the contractor’s data center business, while Raycroft has helped lead its federal construction efforts, the release said.
