The concrete supplier and Ozinga Construction Materials has broken a ground in a low -cement carbon manufacturing facility for the east of Chicago, Ind. It is expected to be completed for the second quarter of 2026, Ozinga says it will be the largest carbon cement manufacturing facility in North America.

“Supplementary cement materials have become a pretty game.” said Maty Ozinga, director general of Ozinga. “Definitely the lower carbon concrete is catching steam.”

The installation was designed by Ozinga to have, in its heart, a MVR5300-C6 vertical factory of GEBB. Pfeiffer. Ozinga said it would be the largest of its kind in North America when it was completed with six independent rollers, the mill was designed to maximize energy efficiency while minimizing carbon emissions.

“It’s not just a plant, it’s a technological milestone,” said Timothy Burden, President of Gebr. Pfeiffer americas. “The MVR5300-C6 establishes a new reference point for the production of sustainable cement.” The installation will produce a low -chetal cement of low Astm C989 carbons, as well as the ownership of the Ozinga Carbon Brand, which comply with Astm C1157 performance performance standards and provide up to 80% incarnated coal reductions. Once completely operational, the plant is expected to compensate for more than 700,000 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, a significant reduction in the carbon footprint of the North -American construction. “

The installation is expected to produce a C989 compatible slag cement and other low carbon cement mixes that can help cut carbon into concrete in concrete up to 80%.

The largest vertical cement factory is currently a Vertical Flsmidth OK81-6, with a diameter of the 26-foot ground table, 6 in and the 8-foot rollers, 7 in. Pfeiffer Cement Mills in Belgium, but to North America.

Ozinga has collaborations with suppliers with Meta, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Amazon Web Services. These collaborations have seen great uses of low carbon concrete at the Detakalb, Ill.

“Many times, he is not the contractor, but the client ultimately has a low carbon concrete as part of his goals, and the Hyper Scalers definitely have those integrated into their plans,” said Ozinga. “Data centers are an area where we see these goals almost anywhere else. The client, the owner or the developer, are promoting and pressing and asking for it.”
