For contractors considering whether they should get involved in rail contracts, there’s one phrase to keep in mind: All aboard.
Over the past year, demand for passenger rail projects has increased, and some of the country’s largest infrastructure projects, such as the $16 billion Hudson Tunnel Projectare gaining national attention.
But not everything is resolved.
Those projects are breaking ground even as the $1.2 trillion Jobs and Infrastructure Investment Act expires on Sept. 30 and lawmakers discuss a new surface transport authorization. As is, the most recent House appropriations bill is included cuts for transportation projects and Amtrak.
Political infighting has also threatened to halt projects like this one Chicago’s $5.7 billion Red Line extensionwhich was inaugurated in April. So has the Hudson Tunnel project subject to a funding struggle with President Donald Trump’s administration over DEI’s practices.
