JCB’s new 4CX DualDrive backhoe
JCB has confirmed that the upcoming Scottish Plant Operator Challenge, taking place on 27 July, will mark the Scottish debut of JCB’s new 4CX DualDrive backhoe.
Competitors, visitors and plant enthusiasts attending the Scotch Plant Operator Challenge will be able to try out JCB’s new innovation, DualDrive, which allows the operator to reposition and drive the machine while looking at the back without having to of turning the seat to the forward position.
JCB Backhoe Demonstration and Training Manager Georgina Williams said: “We are delighted to debut our new 4CX DualDrive backhoe at the Scottish Plant Operator Challenge. It is a showcase for the best talent in the Scottish plant industry and an event that it attracts plant professionals from all over, eager to see and try the newest innovations.
“We studied how operators work and came to the conclusion that the greatest ease of use and productivity improvement would be the ability to drive the machine in both directions while using the excavator.
“This unique feature further sets us apart from the competition and reinforces our commitment to having the easiest and most comfortable backhoe to use. We’re looking forward to seeing the 4CX put to the test in Errol later this month.”

Meanwhile, SANY has confirmed its line-up for the Scottish Plant Operator Challenge, as well as sponsorship of the Lifting Challenge, one of eight tough challenges facing those competing to be crowned Scottish Plant Operator Challenge Champion 2024 on 27 July in Errol.
Visitors to the Scottish Plant Operator Challenge will be able to try out some of SANY’s newest products and innovations in the demo area that were on display at ScotPlant earlier this year.

Competitors will use SANY’s SY215C machine with a block grip for the Lifting Challenge. A 24-ton heavy excavator equipped with a compact Cummins six-cylinder engine. With 129 kW, the machine delivers its power through a Kawasaki hydraulic system that provides a smooth and precise feel for the operator.
Callum Mackintosh added: “It’s great to have SANY on board. The SY215C is the perfect fit for our Lifting Challenge and will give operators the chance to feel the precision and power of the SY215C. I know a lot of people are keen to try the SY26C, which has become very popular in Scotland. Many thanks to SANY for supporting the competition.”
