Dallas-based Primoris Services Corp. easily cruised to the No. 1 spot among ENR Texas and Louisiana’s top specialty contractors classification last year, with regional revenues of nearly $2.3 billion by 2022, spread across the power/energy, industrial/petroleum, transportation and telecommunications sectors, placing the company significantly ahead of other companies most important regional

While this was Primoris’ first time participating in the Texas and Louisiana rankings, the company has been ranked in the top 10 for several years in ENR’s national ranking of 600 specialty contractors. Its position in the upcoming ENR Texas and Louisiana Specialty Contractor Rankings, which will be published in the Sept. 30 print edition, has not yet been determined, but based on its announcement earlier this year of ‘total revenue in 2023 totaling $5.7 billion, a 29% jump from the previous year: Primoris could probably land on top again.

The company also announced $1.1 billion in new contracts, including $700 million worth of solar projects and a $350 million battery energy storage contract. In May, Primoris deployed “hundreds” of the company’s line installers as part of the response to restore power to the Temple, Texas, area after tornadoes left “dozens of towers that span several miles in need of repair,” a company spokesman noted. At the same time, their crews worked to restore power in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Critically, the company, with more than 6,700 employees, places a strong focus on its people. “Our philosophy has always been that we invest in our people,” Tom McCormick, president and CEO, told ENR in 2023.

“The shortage of skilled labor remains a topic of conversation across the industry and has been for many years, even before the challenges of recent years,” he added. “How we deal with this is by showing and not telling; we show our commitment by investing in workforce training, skills development and learning programs. We create a strong company culture where diverse voices are valued and new perspectives through initiatives such as employee resource groups and industry-leading benefits.”

ENR Texas & Louisiana will provide more details about Primoris services in a profile in the Sept. 30 print edition.

An important note: ENR Texas & Louisiana’s 2024 Top Specialty Contractors survey, which is free and can be found here, remains open until August 5th. We encourage companies to participate!

Scott Judy is deputy editor of Regions and publisher of ENR Southeast, one of the 10 regional publications of the Engineering News-Record. His roughly 27 years as a construction journalist began with an 11-year stint covering construction projects in the Midwest. In 2000, Judy helped launch the publication now known as ENR Southeast. He often delves into controversial aspects of the construction industry, such as bankruptcies and fatal accidents, and wishes he never had to cover another accident, but suspects he will.
