Autodesk was named on August 6 as the official design and manufacturing platform for the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games and Team USA. Over the next four years, Autodesk software will be used to support the 2028 Games’ $1 billion-plus construction and temporary overlay plan in and around Los Angeles.
The LA28 plan calls for avoiding the construction of new permanent spaces. The International Olympic Committee says it is committed to building the footprint of LA28 by adapting existing infrastructure or building on it temporarily. Los Angeles previously hosted the Olympics in 1934 and 1984, and many of its existing venues, such as the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, may be adapted once again. More than 40 major competition and non-competition venues in Southern California will be adapted for the LA28 Games.
“Autodesk software is part of our LA28 story – the behind-the-scenes technology that brings our vision for LA28 games to life,” he said. LA28 President Casey Wasserman said in a statement. “Together, we will develop the right plan to support 12 to 15 million ticketed fans in such a short period of time.”
LA28 will use Autodesk software, including Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud to collaborate with stakeholders on the design, development and final delivery of the facilities, according to the release.
“At Autodesk we believe that the most sustainable building is the one that is already built. That’s why we’re excited about LA28’s ambitious plan to adapt existing structures to ensure sustainability is at the forefront of the LA28 Games site plan,” said Amy Bunszel, Executive Vice President of AEC at Autodesk .
The statement also said LA28’s partnership with Autodesk will support collaboration with transit agencies over the next four years. LA28 will use Autodesk software to assist in the design of Olympic-related transport elements and traffic control plans, as well as supporting venues and facilities.
LA28 has yet to release details on how designers and contractors will be mandated to use Autodesk platforms for game-related work.
