The pre -construction work is underway on two projects by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transport Authority, who will set the stage for a new light railway traffic runner and will expand the capacity at the region’s multimodal center.
Awarded by the metro to the joint company of Flatirondragados and Herzog in April, the Advanced Works Works Southest Gateway Line project will move the railway lines and railway services in advance of a light railway line of 14.5 miles and nine stations to serve in southeastern Los Angeles county. The initial phase of pre -construction of $ 10.5 million from the construction/general contractor that enables the project focuses on the coordination of early design and construction planning for what will include 52,000 feet of new main track, 26 new cross -track crossings and temporary track shows to maintain the railway operations during the construction. A new vehicle access structure for an existing light railway station and a pedestrian railway pass will also be built.
In October 2024, Metro won a subsidy of $ 231 million from the California Transit Capital Program of California (TIRCP) for the southeast door, coinciding with the start of the transfer of public services. The construction of the project is expected to exceed $ 500 million, while the overall cost of the South Pass -East is currently projected to $ 7.2 billion, with operations planned to start by 2035.
Separately, Flatirondragados has begun the pre -construction for the Link Station of the Metro project, which is currently designed by HDR. The project aims to modernize and expand its capacity to the most busy multimodal traffic center in southern California through the addition of departure tracks and a raised rail court that will improve operational flexibility with the Comuter Amtrak and Metrolink service and will be adapted to a future high -speed railway. The pre -construction phase of $ 7 million from the construction manager/general construction contractor supports current collaboration with metro on project design and construction planning.
According to a Flatirondragados spokesman, the two -year pre -construction phase of each project will focus on the maintenance of traffic to minimize the effects on the surrounding communities, a wide utility and the coordination of third party parts and the design efficiency through the supervision of construction as the design progresses, including the selection of structure types for new planned bridges. For the south door -the team will also address the potential effects on the existing slopes with the Pacific Union railway.
As the design of each project is completed, a construction contract will be negotiated with the metro, with its estimated combined value at $ 900 million, according to Flatirondragados. The complete construction of the two projects is scheduled to begin by 2027.
