Grill of the city

Kevin Collins

Kevin Collins

New York Office Chief

HNTB

Design and construction work in New York City “remains resilient, with strong momentum in the transportation, residential, office and healthcare infrastructure sectors,” says Collins. “There is a noticeable shift towards renovation and repair projects in good condition. Few sectors have really cooled.”

Collins explains that “while residential lettings have slowed since the 2024 highs, overall spending remains strong, driven by [building] transformations and reforms”.

Delivery models and technology will drive more innovation, the executive notes. Progressive design-build and public-private partnership approaches “are gaining favor for complex projects,” he says. “AI and predictive analytics are being deployed for resilience planning, community and stakeholder engagement, and environmental reviews.”

Additionally, Collins says, “We expect a continued emphasis on digital tools, enabling reform and workforce development to accelerate timelines and meet the city’s infrastructure goals.”
