Build a billion dollar data center well and the phone tends to ring again.
Meta has selected Minneapolis-based Mortenson and New York City-based Turner Construction to build one $10 billion data center in Lebanon, Indiana, according to a company press release.
The win adds to the Meta portfolio of both contractors. The couple already worked together Meta’s $10 billion data center campus near Monroe, Louisiana. Mortenson also began building a 1 billion dollar data center in Beaver Dam, Wis., in December.
The state-of-the-art campus in Lebanon will offer 1 gigawatt of capacity once complete, according to a Meta press release shared with Construction Dive. The facility would be Meta’s second data center in Indiana; the first is another project directed by Turner in Jeffersonville.
In addition, the news also marks the launch of the Boone County Professional Collaborative, a workforce development initiative, according to Meta. The program connects area students with local employers to develop skills and explore career paths.
Meta’s investments will also support area schools and nonprofit organizations through its annual grant programs and contribute to local and state tax bases, according to the release.
The project budget allocates $45 million for public road improvements and another $75 million for public water infrastructure projects, according to a news release from the Boone County Economic Development Corp. submitted to Construction Dive. Meta also plans to improve habitat and decrease water runoff in nearby Deer Creek, according to the company.
“We are building the infrastructure that will power the next generation of AI technology, and Lebanon is now at the center of that effort,” Rachel Peterson, vice president of data centers at Meta, said in the Boone EDC release. “This is one of our largest investments to date and marks an important milestone in our AI ambitions.”
