PS&S, ENR New York Design Firm of the Year, worked on the Gordon H. Mansfield Veteran’s Community, a new apartment community located in a six-acre village-like setting in Tinton Falls, NJ.

PS&S Architects and Planners has been named the ENR New York Design Firm of the Year 2026. Each year, ENR editors base the selection on a firm’s success in terms of growth and revenue, as well as innovation, creativity and commitment to giving back to its community.

PS&S ranks No. 66 on the ENR East Design Firm list with $56.24 million in regional revenue by 2024. Read the May 11 issue of ENR East to learn more about the firm and find out where it ranks in this year’s ENR East Top Design Firm survey.

The ENR East Architects & Engineers Ranking includes firms doing business in Connecticut, Delaware, Washington, DC, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia. Rankings are based on total regional revenue for design services of participating firms, also including distributions by state revenue and various design specialties and disciplines, as appropriate.

The Warren, NJ-based company credits its “local experts” as central to its success in recent years. The firm focuses on consistently delivering solutions that are not only technically excellent, but also fiscally responsible and strategically aligned with the needs of its clients. It aims to design projects that create lasting impact by improving communities for generations to come.

The firm was recognized last year as one of the best places to work by NJBIZ magazine. Another key factor in their success is their commitment to building businesses and managing key accounts. “By strengthening relationships with both existing and new customers, we have substantially increased our portfolio coverage ratio, ensuring a stable foundation for continued growth,” the company says. “We are proud to have promoted talented individuals from within our organization, and our leadership team is wholeheartedly embracing the ambitious goals we have set for ourselves.”

PS&S’ contributions to its community include an annual partnership with Green Empowerment | Village Solutions for Global Change, which partners with other organizations to build clean water and renewable energy infrastructure for indigenous and rural communities around the world. Last year it also sponsored an initiative in Nicaragua that brought drinking water to 100 families. The company says this shows that “even regional businesses can make a significant difference in communities thousands of miles away.”

PS&S says it fosters “a spirit of service by supporting local initiatives that resonate with its team and partners.” In its acquisitions, it looks for companies that value community service to strengthen cultural alignment and enable PS&S to carry forward the traditions and community commitment established by the acquired companies.

Some of the best PS&S projects include:

Soldier: Gordon H. Mansfield Veterans Village Housing for Veterans, Tinton Falls, NJ – The $29 million full-service affordable residence for veterans and homeless veterans includes a 70-unit building. The project, slated to open later this year, was designed to support a multitude of services including workforce assistance, wellness support and transportation for residents. The building was also designed to Zero Energy Ready and LEED AP Home standards for energy efficiency and sustainability. The site required extensive stormwater management and integration into the community infrastructure and civic environment. The community’s outdoor space includes a community garden, a water greenhouse4 and a columbarium with an eternal flame that is used as a memorial to past residents.

Kay Evans House Historic Preservation and Archeological Dig, Cherry Hill Township, NJ – PS&S provided the complete design documentation for the rehabilitation of this historic property and National Recreation Area. During the design of exterior drainage requirements for the ongoing project, PS&S archaeologists determined that the project required substantial archaeological monitoring and logging. The resulting archaeological dig uncovered significant evidence of the site’s role as a busy Underground Railroad stop in the late 18th and 19th centuries. The excavation, conducted by the PS&S Cultural Resources Team in early 2026, was conducted prior to preservation work on the historic Kay-Evans House.

Essex County Parks Administration Building Rehabilitation, Essex County, NJ – The multi-phase design accommodates the county’s evolving needs while preserving and honoring a structure listed on the National and State Registers of Historic Places. Complementing the design effort, PS&S planners, archaeologists and architectural historians also guided the project through the New Jersey Office of Historic Preservation review process, ensuring a seamless alignment between regulatory requirements and the building’s lasting architectural legacy.
