Skanska stalwart Steve Holbrook has left the company with immediate effect after nearly three decades of service.
Holbrook joined the Swedish-owned construction company in 1995, initially as a sponsored student halfway through his undergraduate studies at Loughborough University.
He rose to become managing director of Skanska Building five years ago, when the unit was created as part of a major restructuring of the global business.
Holbrook has now abruptly walked away from the contractor, which grew turnover to £1.4bn last year and was ranked the UK’s 13th largest in the latest CN100.
Former cementing managing director Terry Muckian has been appointed as replacement managing director of the construction unit, with Andy Entwistle taking over from Muckian’s previous role.
Skanska said in a statement: “After 28 years of service, Steve Holbrook is leaving Skanska. Steve has made a significant contribution to the company over many years. We all wish him the best in his future endeavours.
“We are pleased to confirm that Terry Muckian has been appointed General Manager of Buildings. He brings a wealth of operational and commercial leadership experience, combined with a strong client focus in both the public and private sectors.
“Andy Entwistle has been appointed Managing Director of Cementing and will join our senior management team. Andy brings a wealth of experience to the role as well as having many strong client relationships.
“All changes are made with immediate effect and will have no impact on project delivery.”
