Garry L. Shields, 59, a lifelong resident of Old Fort, passed away Thursday evening, November 9, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late WC “Dub” and Mary Ruth Prince Shields Rogers. Garry worked for many years with his brother, Jerry, doing backhoe work in the construction industry. He enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycles, listening to gospel music to name a few, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, Garry is also preceded in death by his stepfather, Roy Rogers; two brothers, Jerry and Terry Shields; a sister, Loretta Shelton; grandparents, Russell Lee Prince and Lavisha Prince and Genny Craig Shields and Walter Shields; an uncle, Reverend Doyle Prince (Patsy); and two aunts, Ella Jean Shields and Josephine Swaggerty.

Garry leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife and best friend, Rhonda Cross Shields; a son, Christopher Shields; a granddaughter, Cayci Shields; stepson, Jonathan Sutton (Brittney); mother-in-law, Joyce Fowler; three sisters-in-law, Kathy Fowler, Sheila Shields and Pam Brooking; two brothers-in-law, Bobby Cross (Shelly) and Emory Shelton; several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly; many other extended family members; and a lot of special friends.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 13th in the parlor of the Companion Funeral Home at 2415 Georgetown Road in Cleveland from 11 am to 1:30 pm A graveside service will follow at 2 pm at Moore’s Chapel Cemetery , with Rev. Guinn Green and Rev. Roger Stepp officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
