McLaren has promoted Paul Heather to chief executive of the construction group as part of a reshuffle that will bring together the company’s four divisional leaders into a strengthened board.

Heather, who was appointed group managing director last March, previously spent five years as London managing director at Sir Robert McAlpine.

McLaren Construction chairman Kevin Taylor said Heather had driven a successful turnaround program since joining the business.

“In just 18 months, Paul Heather has worked with a strong and established team to refine our processes, win high-caliber projects and attract new talent, achieving a huge turnaround in the company’s performance,” he said.

McLaren has also moved to strengthen its board with the addition of Midlands & North managing director Gary Cramp and UAE region managing director Mark Stephen Hunt.

While Cramp is credited with leading the Midlands & North division with an annual turnover of more than £270m, Hunt has been responsible for the development of McLaren’s UAE operations over the past decade.

The pair will serve alongside London & South Managing Director Darren Gill and Major Projects Managing Director John Butten.

Company co-founder Phil Pringle will take on the new formal role of vice president.

Taylor said the scale of the company required a strong board that brought together the key divisions and functions of the business.

“The combined experience of the board ensures that the business continues to deliver expertise-based construction solutions to the UK and international target markets,” he said.

“With the longevity on the board provided by Phil, who continues to support the business as vice chairman, we are looking for valuable input on decisions from our latest promotions, Gary and Mark, who have shaped the culture and growth of McLaren, helping us to become an integrated and international company, active in key development sectors.”
