Morgan Sindall has secured a key role in a £70m refurbishment of a town center in Lancashire.

The UK’s second largest contractor by turnover has been appointed to deliver the first works on the Accrington Town Square scheme.

Hyndburn Borough Council is transforming three important buildings in the borough: Market Hall, Market Chambers and Burton Chambers.

With the help of leveling central government funding, the scheme will create a dining, working and cultural space in the heart of Accrington.

Morgan Sindall will begin enabling works imminently to prepare the site for major redevelopment works to begin next year.

The firm was appointed using a Scape construction framework and said it would maintain a focus on social value and sustainability throughout the project.

Morgan Sindall North West Region Managing Director Simon Arnott said: “We are committed to helping build stronger and more resilient communities.

“Hyndburn Borough Council has developed an inspiring vision for the future of Accrington, built around a town square that will have significant social and economic benefits for the local community.

“It will be a privilege for our team to help provide this catalyst for community growth and engagement.”

Scape chief executive Mark Robinson said: “This is a fantastic project, which will use a strong local supply chain to revitalize and reimagine some of the North West’s most historic sites.

“These new facilities will boost the local and regional economy, create new jobs and ensure a positive and sustainable legacy is created in Accrington that will be felt for years to come.”
