Winvic has taken over as main contractor a logistics mega-development being built by Buckingham Group for developer Segro.

Buckingham, which went into administration in August, was awarded a £140m contract in 2020 to build the first four buildings at Segro Park Coventry – units 3A, 4A, 4B and 4C.

Segro bought the 450-acre site near Coventry Airport in early 2020 to build a manufacturing and warehouse center with up to 344,000 square meters of logistics space.

Units 4B and 4C, offering 19,000 and 12,000 square meters of warehouse space respectively, have now been completed. According to Segro, construction of the other two buildings is expected to be completed in the first half of 2024.

A Segro spokesman said: “Winvic is a long-standing supplier to Segro and has delivered numerous warehouses and wider infrastructure in developments such as Segro Logistics Park East Midlands Gateway and Segro Logistics Park Northampton.

“By moving quickly to appoint Winvic, not only were we able to continue the construction program with minimal disruption, but we were able to retain many of the people who were working on the Segro Park Coventry project, either as direct subcontractors or through of the new Winvic contract.”

The two unfinished units have been pre-leased to logistics companies: Unit 3A to DP World and Unit 4A to DHL.

Alongside the buildings, Buckingham had also been contracted to provide a 35,000 square meter adoptable access road, 6 million cubic meters of earthworks, a waste water drainage system and a 235 acre park.

The site once consisted of five landfills, a waste treatment plant and a World War II airbase.
