Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s fourth regional rail facility will support the Silver Line’s fleet of state-of-the-art multi-unit diesel vehicles, which will be cleaned, maintained and refueled on site. The 5-acre location is near the end of the new Silver Line alignment, which runs from Plano to DFW International Airport.

The facility, valued at $71 million, has a 17,761 square meter basement, an 11,030 square meter first floor and two mezzanines, as well as a track embedded in the concrete apron around the maintenance and wash facilities, a plinth track inside the maintenance facility and a plinth track inside the wash facility.

The basement level was added at the 95% design stage—four months into preconstruction—once a geotechnical study confirmed the soil classifications and inspection pits were constructed. Stacy and Witbeck received notice to proceed on a Friday and began work the following Monday, limiting impacts by adding significant overtime. The team also captured all available time savings, such as using a rock trencher to cut hard limestone instead of blasting, which saved three months on the schedule.
