Contractors of all sizes are always looking for ways to improve the performance of their workforce. Increasing productivity, improving the quality of work and maintaining a safe workplace are top priorities.

Studies show that one of the most impactful tools construction companies have to improve their team’s field performance is craft training. Formal training allows companies to improve the skills and business knowledge of their employees, helping them work better, faster and safer.

A recent survey by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) shows that craft training can deliver real results for construction companies:

  • 96% of companies said training improved productivity.
  • 77% said training improved safety.
  • 60% said training helped reduce rework.

These results show why craft training can give contractors a strong competitive advantage. By upskilling workers, companies can improve performance, strengthen safety and reduce costly errors.

But many small and medium-sized contractors still struggle to provide the training their workers need. Limited time, staff and resources can make these benefits feel out of reach.

  • cost
  • Time limitations
  • Lack of consistent facilities
  • Lack of qualified training personnel
  • Lack of relevant and quality training materials
  • Language barriers

Because of these obstacles, many smaller contractors have been hesitant or unable to commit to investing in specialized trades training programs. This means they’ve missed out on the huge benefits that training can bring to their teams and projects.

Fortunately, there is an innovative new solution that can help these small contractors overcome many of the training challenges they have traditionally faced and allow them to finally unlock the benefits of craft training.

CraftPro is an online training tool that provides mobile-friendly and self-contained craft training courses to contractors and their employees. Contractors can create personalized learning paths for any of their employees by choosing courses from CraftPro’s online library and then assigning them to students.

CraftPro enables contractors and subcontractors to provide just-in-time training and skill enhancement through the platform’s instructional videos, interactive activities, self-review tests and other resources. Courses culminate in a course test to verify knowledge attainment, and many courses also include practical performance tasks to validate skill attainment. Contractors may even choose to issue employer-specific credentials to students who successfully complete courses.

In summary: CraftPro offers a way to train without many of the challenges of a full training or apprenticeship program. There is no burden of finding instructors or classrooms. The self-paced online format means there is no need for workers out in the field. And you can teach employees exactly the skills they need when they need them most.

For contractors who previously thought their operation was too small or their schedules too chaotic to properly train and upskill their employees, CraftPro opens up a whole new world of possibilities.
