Merit Award

Presented by Brinkmann constructors

Main design company: Answers Inc.

General contractor: Brinkmann constructors

Civil Engineer: Cochran Engineering

Structural Engineer: Case Engineering Inc.

Foristell, Missouri has a new 127,000 square foot state-of-the-art distribution center to help meet the growing demand for industrial cold storage solutions in the region. This $20 million facility, the first of three planned phases, was completed after nine months in December 2024.

The warehouse includes a 55,600-square-foot freezer, a 29,300-square-foot cooler with a 42-foot headroom, a 23,500-square-foot cold dock that extends 70 feet deep, and a capacity of 16,500 pallets. The facility also has an office and support area of 8,600 square meters.

In addition to meeting demanding operational requirements, the project incorporated energy-efficient construction practices, advanced cooling technology and optimized storage configurations.

Initial plans specified the use of insulated metal panels for all cold storage areas, but the project team redesigned the dock and maintenance areas to use Thermomass insulated tilting concrete walls. This modification resulted in substantial cost savings, reduced construction time, and provided a more durable solution for two critical high-traffic spaces: the 70-foot-deep dock and the 7,500-square-foot maintenance area.
