
Structure Tone International, the unit of New York City-based global contractor and construction management company STO Building Group, has confirmed the death on July 9 of what is believed to be a project worker who fell from the site of an interior renovation project of a building in London. Neither the police nor the company have identified the deceased’s name, employer or occupation.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said the incident involved a man in his 30s who was pronounced dead at the scene in the Mayfair section of the city, at the intersection of Berkeley Street and Stratton Street, according to media reports.
In a statement to the sector publication building, He also confirmed to ENR, London-based Structure Tone, that it is “aware of a tragic incident that occurred today at our project on Stratton Street in London” and that the company is “co-operating fully with the relevant authorities as they establish the circumstances surrounding the incident”.
Police and the company declined further comment on the cause of the incident, but according to Structure Tone, it did not “involve a construction health and safety violation,” as outlined in the completed police investigation. A formal statement from the Metropolitan Police will be released on July 13.
Structure Tone International is the main contractor for the refurbishment and fit-out of the 50 Berkeley / 50 Stratton Street office development, which is part of a larger commercial refurbishment and office extension of two interlinked buildings managed by developer Berkeley Estate Asset Management..
