Ardmore has secured a £75m major works contract at the Hackney Yards development in east London.

The work, awarded by Notting Hill Genesis, will see the contractor design and build four residential and commercial blocks around Hackney Wick station.

The eight-storey brick-clad blocks, split across three sites, will provide 190 affordable homes in a mix of tenures and more than 4,000 square meters of retail space.

The commercial element will include commercial and community facilities, leisure spaces, low-cost work areas, landscaped public spaces, terraces and podiums.

Ardmore said the appointment was based on the company’s experience of delivering large residential schemes, such as the recently completed 387-unit Phase 4a of Battersea Power Station. A £200m residential scheme in Kensington was also awarded earlier this year.

“Over the last few months, we have built a strong and reliable team for this project, and we are confident of aligning the buildings to the highest safety standards, without compromising on quality,” said Ardmore director James Byrne.

John Hughes, Notting Hill Genesis Group Development Director and Deputy Chief Executive, said the appointment represented an important milestone for the Hackney Yards development, which is being delivered in partnership with the London Legacy Development Corporation.

“We look forward to continuing our collaborative alliance with Ardmore as we begin work on this 100% affordable tenure scheme in the heart of Hackney Wick, one of London’s most exciting and dynamic locations,” he said.

The works will start in March.
