As fans prepare for the NFL season, the Denver Broncos have started something new.
On Thursday, New York City-based Turner Construction began building one new training facilities and team headquarters in Englewood, Colo. Megan Boyle, senior director of strategic communications for the Broncos, told Construction Dive. The cost of the complex is 175 million dollars, according to NBC affiliate 9News.
Turner will serve as CM/GC for the project, according to Chris McFadden, vice president of communications for the construction company. The contractor is joined by designers HOK, Oz and Rockwell Group, Boyle confirmed to Construction Dive.
The three-story, 205,000-square-foot training facility will be 30 percent larger than the existing structure. according to a HOK press release since the project was announced. The overall complex will be designed in a “contemporary Colorado style,” according to the Broncos.
The main headquarters will be located directly west of the existing plaza-level facilities and connect to the 115,000-square-foot Pat Bowlen Field House, built in 2014, HOK said. In total, the Broncos’ headquarters will span more than 320,000 square feet on 26 acres.
The first floor will house player spaces, which will increase by nearly 21,000 square feet to accommodate an expanded locker room, sports performance areas and meeting rooms, per HOK. Football operations will be located on the second floor, while business operations, including many employees currently located at the Broncos’ home field, Empower Field at Mile High Stadium, will be on the third floor.
The project was 100 percent privately funded, according to the Broncos, and the franchise expects construction to be complete before the 2026 NFL season.
The construction of the updated headquarters comes two years later Walton-Penner Group bought the Broncos worth $4.65 billion. The ownership group consists of Walmart heir Rob Walton, his daughter, Carrie Walton-Penner, and his son-in-law, Greg Penner.
“The combination of design, collaborative spaces, flexibility and size will place the Broncos’ new practice facility among the best in all of sports,” Broncos President Damani Leech said in the Broncos’ press release. franchise
