ELMO, Mo. An Elmo man was killed Wednesday afternoon in an accident involving a John Deere 310C backhoe.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 2 p.m. on Bell Road, north of 170th Street, about three miles southwest of Elmo, where Michael E. Calfee , 67, was loading brush onto the unoccupied loader.
The patrol report indicated that the loader, which had been left in gear, began to roll and struck Calfee, who suffered fatal injuries as a result.
The victim was pronounced dead shortly before 6 p.m. by Nodaway County Coroner Vince Shelby. Calfee’s body was taken by the coroner to Bram Funeral Home in Maryville.
Patrol Cpl. BE Maudlin was assisted by Nodaway County Sheriff’s Office personnel in working the crash.
