Galliford Try creates new recruitment role

Galliford Try has appointed Andrew Spencer to the new role of director of supply chain and procurement.

Spencer joins the business from Skanska and has over 25 years of construction experience.

He will become the functional head of supply chain and procurement professionals across the business, reporting to Director of Technical Services Sean Blackmore.

As part of his new role, Spencer will be tasked with developing the company’s strategic approach to supply chain management, supporting the development of a strong and aligned supply chain to improve performance delivery and support future growth plans.

Blackmore said: “As a company, our supply chain regards us as an employer of choice and Andrew’s appointment is a key part of evolving our supply chain relationships to ensure we remain at the ‘at the forefront of industry best practice, recognizing the benefits of working collaboratively with a well-integrated supply chain can deliver the best value for our customers.’

Spencer said: “I have long admired Galliford Try, its values ​​and collaborative approach to supply chain engagement and I am excited and grateful to be welcomed into my new role, working across the business to improve delivery in this critical area of ​​our operations.”

The appointment comes after Galliford Try reported modest increases in profits and turnover last month.

The contractor turned over £1.39bn in the year to 30 June 2023, up 13% on the previous year. Revenue at its infrastructure arm grew substantially from £441.9m to £590.8m, while growth at the company’s larger construction division was slower, rising from £8m to £797.1m.

Galliford Try made a pre-tax profit of £10.1m, up from £5.4m the previous year. However, its “exceptional pre-tax profit” came in at £23.4m; the bulk of its “one-off” costs were £10.5m spent on cloud-based IT systems, which went live in the summer of this year.
