LIVERPOOL TOWNSHIP – Liverpool Township trustees unanimously approved a 3 percent pay raise for full-time employees of the township’s police and highway department during their meeting Tuesday.

The wage increase will take effect with the first full salary in 2024.

Trustees also approved moving Police Chief Jared Kinemond from salaried to hourly.

Trustees continue to work to clean up the town’s blighted properties. They have seen the results of their efforts in at least one property; others are still trying to get in touch with the owners. Several registered letters have been sent to the owners notifying them that they need to clean up the properties, but they have received few return receipts. Administrators plan to visit one of the owners in person to discuss the cleanup with them before further action is taken.

In his report, Kinemond told administrators that one of his officers was supposed to go to state firearms instructor training at the end of the month, but that class has been canceled due to missing of registration The chief is looking into another course to enroll the officer in, but doesn’t expect him to take the course until after the first of the year.

Fire Chief Dave Ward told administrators that he had contacted the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) regarding the grant they had previously been awarded due to a mailing error and he was told the township should receive the check in the next few weeks.

Road Foreman Chris Bosworth said the tractor that had been sent to Akron for diagnosis needs a new solenoid and coil, both parts are on order and the pump was rebuilt with two new seals. Once the works are finished, the tractor will be ready for the municipality to use again. The estimated cost of repairs is not yet known.

Bosworth received the go-ahead from trustees to begin interviewing applicants to fill the vacancy in the highway department.

Trustees approved $10,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for the highway department to purchase two new tires for the backhoe, a 55-gallon oil drum, a new track for the excavator and repairs on 2006 truck.

Bills/warrants and EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) payment in the amount of $31,533.60 were approved.

Trustees approved several additional appropriations resolutions, including a $300 for the Fire District Fund Unemployment Compensation line item, the $1,500 Fire District Fund item for electricity, and the item for the Police Fund for operational supplies (fuel) in the amount of $2,500. .

A resolution appointing Trustee Mike Bahen to the county review of the county’s 911 program was adopted with a favorable vote.

Trustee Dennis Giambroni noted that the Nov. 7 general election will be held at the Township Administration Building.

The Borough of Liverpool Board of Trustees meets every Tuesday at 3pm in the Borough Administration Building. The next regular meeting is scheduled for November 14.
