Chief operating officer

Consigli Construction Co.

Prefab design and construction, as well as a focus on carbon neutrality and sustainability in educational projects are trends in the Washington, DC market, Brault says.

“Incorporating prefabricated elements into the design and construction process can be more efficient and effective as it also reduces on-site labor requirements, which supports lower costs, a higher quality product and, ultimately a safer workplace,” he says.

Consigli is using prefabricated, panelized light-gauge metal-frame wall systems for residence halls at Coppin State University in Baltimore and two barracks buildings for all military branches at Fort Meade. But he adds that “it is critical that we build a stronger portfolio of diverse talent for the AEC industry” to address labor shortages across the sector.

“The market outlook in DC remains strong with an influx of opportunities in the health care, education, hospitality, museum, cultural and government markets, including many large-scale complex projects,” says Brault .
