McLaren has secured a £28m job to deliver an integrated health and care center in north-east London.
The three-storey Sant Jordi Health and Wellness Center will bring together primary care, mental health and prevention services in a single purpose-built centre, along with cancer care and dialysis.
Work has already started on the Suttons Lane site in Hornchurch, where asbestos removal and surveys have been carried out, parts of the former St George’s Hospital have been demolished and the land leveled to prepare the new center
McLaren said it intended to use a hybrid of traditional and modern construction methods to build the center in order to reduce construction time, minimize disruption and improve safety.
The center is scheduled to be completed in the first semester of 2024.
Serving the boroughs of Havering, Redbridge and Barking and Dagenham, the center has been designed to enable patients to see a range of professionals in one visit, with a focus on prevention, early intervention and wellbeing.
It will also provide space for local volunteer, community and support groups, offering a community cafe, multi-purpose educational and meeting spaces and a sensory and dementia-friendly community garden.
North East London Health and Care Association chief executive Zina Etheridge said the building would transform the way health and care was delivered in the area.
“By bringing such a wide range of services to the heart of the community and working in partnership with local voluntary groups, we hope it will provide an exemplary model of how to provide comprehensive care tailored to the needs of local people,” he said. . said
McLaren division director and head of healthcare Richard Eager said the building would be “a flagship for the delivery of a truly integrated model of care”.
“We have been able to help this expert partnership deliver their ambitious plans in an affordable way, despite rising construction costs, by using the right combination of modern technology and traditional construction methods,” he said.
In April, McLaren was chosen to deliver a £94m overhaul of Angel Square in Islington.
