DPR unveils new office in suburban Philadelphia

DPR is looking to deliver on the more than $1.8 billion in active construction underway in the Philadelphia region, according to a news release Tuesday.

The Santa Clara, Calif.-based contractor recently expanded its footprint in the Mid-Atlantic region with the opening of a new office in Radnor, Pennsylvania. The new office, about 20 miles from Philadelphia, brings the DPR team closer to key clients in the Delaware Valley, according to the release.

The move aims to strengthen the company’s healthcare, life sciences, advanced technology, higher education and commercial builds in the region, according to the contractor.

“Philadelphia is a market defined by influential institutions, complex work and long-term opportunities,” said Amir Nekoumand, DPR’s New Jersey business unit leader. “The Radnor office strengthens our ability to bring technical expertise, local commitment and continued investment.”

STV lands $4 million management services contract

New York City-based professional services firm STV won a California Judicial Council program management contract for $4 billion statewide capital programaccording to a Wednesday press release.

The program supports 430 court properties in the Golden State, with approximately 1,300 facility projects each year. According to the announcement, STV will help the board, which serves as the policy and rulemaking body for California’s court system, prioritize investments, improve facility reliability and advance upgrades and expansion.

STV has provided program management and construction services throughout the state, including for the California Department of General Services, the BART transit system in the San Francisco Bay Area and the Delta Sky Way program at Los Angeles International Airport, according to the announcement.

“With a portfolio of this size and complexity, disciplined program management is critical,” Mike Courtney, project manager for Cypress Construction Management, an STV company, said in the release. “Our goal is to help the Judicial Council deliver updates faster, address challenges early, and ensure that investments result in safer and more reliable court facilities for Californians.”

The Modular Building Institute elects a new president

The Modular Building Institute has elected Matt Slataper, President of Ramtech Building Systems, as a Fellow new president of the board of directorsaccording to a May 22 announcement.

Slataper will serve a one-year term as board chairman. Mansfield, Texas-based Ramtech, founded in 1982, has a tradition of leadership as MBI presidents, with four past employees holding the position.

Slataper joined Ramtech, which provides relocatable modular buildings such as classrooms and office space, in 2018 after more than a decade in the financial services industry. As president of the company, he focuses on strategy and business development, financial, banking and accounting oversight.

MBI is the umbrella trade group for the commercial modular construction industry. It promotes best practices, sets industry standards and creates new opportunities for off-site construction solutions, according to the release.

Calculator company launches AI-powered construction math tool

Calculated Industries, maker of specialty calculators for construction, real estate and commerce, is expanding CMPro application with artificial intelligence.

The app’s new feature, Ask CMPro, uses the company’s 40 years of construction math experience instead of generic Internet sources, according to an announcement Wednesday.

According to the announcement, builders using the tool will receive step-by-step guidance on tasks that may include calculating joist pitch, material take-offs and stairs. Some of its other features include providing responses to voice or text queries, saving chat sessions with a time-stamped history, and reviewing previous calculations and guidance.

“AI is only useful in the workplace if the answers can be trusted,” Steve Kennedy, president of Calculated Industries, said in the press release. “Built on four decades of proven CMPro construction math, Ask CMPro offers AI-powered step-by-step guidance to help users work faster and with more confidence.”

2 outstanding winning projects

Finally, Perini Management Services, the subsidiary of Tutor Perini, has won another one construction work in alaska for the US Coast Guard after securing a $61.6 million contract for a child development center earlier this month. This one, announced on Wednesday, is for family housing project worth $81.8 million.

Meanwhile, Granite Construction landed a road construction project Orange County, Florida for $41 million.
