Construction is ready to begin Dec. 10 at San Antonio International Airport’s new $1.4 billion Terminal C, according to local CBS affiliate KENS5. The 832,000-square-foot, 17-gate facility will nearly double the size of the existing Terminals A and B.
The Terminal C project is the centerpiece of the airport’s 20-year, $2.5 billion strategic development programthat the San Antonio City Council approved in November 2021 with the goal of keeping up with expected passenger growth.
The airport he chose was in Greeley, Colorado Hensel Phelps to supervise the planning and construction of the new terminal as well as related improvements including a multi-storey ground transportation center with additional parking, the extension of elevated roads, a new customs inspection area and aircraft parking.
Dallas-based Corgan and San Antonio-based Lake Flato designed the terminal.
Under the construction-at-risk method the city uses, Hensel Phelps is capped at $1 billion and will have to work with the architect to control construction costs. Hensel Phelps will be required bid out about 85 percent of the work, which will create opportunities for local and underserved businesses, City Manager Erik Walsh said last year.
The work also includes utility plant and other utility improvements, as well as demolition and site preparation.
Terminal C is expected to open in the second quarter of 2028 the project will be paid for through grant funding from the FAA, the Jobs and Infrastructure Investments Act, airport revenues and fees, as well as airport bonds.
There are already two projects underway to provide five more doors until the opening of the new terminal. The airport also plans to modernize the departure baggage handling system at Terminals A and B in November 2025.
