Skanska, along with joint venture partner ECCO III Enterprises, has won an $848 million contract to build a reservoir project in Yonkers, New York. The Sweden-based company’s share of the contract is 75%, or $630 million.

ECCO III Enterprises is a Yonkers-based civil engineer founded in 1971.

Work began on the Hillview Depot Chemical Addition Facility construction project in August 2024, the statement said, with completion expected in 2030.

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection decided in March 2019 to cover the concrete-lined Hillview Reservoir, built in 1917, by comply with the Drinking Water Law. The reservoir is a key supply of drinking water for New York City, providing up to 100 percent of its clean drinking water, according to The Yonkers Ledger.

The new chemical addition facilities are the first stage of the agency’s $2 billion plan to improve Hillview Reservoir, which spans 90 acres in southeast Yonkers, according to The Yonkers Ledger.

The project includes improvements to the existing north entrance and the addition of two new chemical facility buildings on the Hillview Reservoir grounds. The work will also include the construction and implementation of two new electrical service supplies and associated distribution equipment, a new supervisory control system and data acquisition, a temporary structure for the chemical systems used for quality control of the water and water transport pumps.

The facility will remain operational during the works. The project will also seek LEED v4.1 certification.
