County of Nassau.
The Netherlands Company has also taken advantage of its local relationships to become one of the largest companies in semiconductors’ construction and construction management in New York. Since acquiring Microchip Fabricator DPS Technologies Advanced Technologies by 2022, Arcadis income in the sector has been about $ 100 million and grow year after year. This success, along with their ability to help customers browse state regulatory processes and create robust collaborations with local institutions, have caused the Arcadis selection. 5 in the East East design companies survey with $ 582.08 million in revenue, such as the New York design firm 2025 a year.
In addition to the environmental repair and services of the water and wastewater, the regional design portfolio of Arcadis includes climate adaptation, vertical buildings and transportation. The firm’s work for local universities includes the new Pratt Institute climate adaptation center. John McCarthy, President of Arcadis North America, argued with the success of the firm’s semiconductor sector, the experience of climate adaptation and the global delivery model. This Q&A has been edited and condensed.
What do you attribute to the success of Arcadis in the semiconductor sector?
About three years ago, we acquired DPS Advanced Technologies, a company specializing in the manufacture of microchips. This brought a research experience elsewhere in the world. We have an office in Albany placed at New York State University: in New York it creates a campus that has been established for many years by doing advanced research on chip manufacturing.
We have created a business around … I don’t think we could have done it if we hadn’t had an established presence in New York State to start. New York Creates is a non -profit group in the state that wants to move forward in Chip technology research. We set this connection soon and this is how we are delivering this particular facility. Ny Creates is the sponsor, with the state of New York as a government agency that supports us.
Recent Arcadis projects of a glance:
Create the reflection of Nanofab, Albany, New York
The extension of the non -profit NY creates the Nanotech Albany complex includes the creation of the Nanofab Reflection Building between the existing semiconductors’ research and development infrastructure. The installation of four floors with a clean room iso 5 of 50,000 feet is a joint company of advanced technology group Arcadis DPS and Gilbane Building Co.
Battery Park City Resilience Project, New York
Part of the coastal protection program “ The Big U ” launched after the Hurricane Sandy in 2012, the project is advancing an integrated flood protection barrier of 1.4 miles in length to reduce the risk of rainwater and coastal floods to residents, commercial companies and active critical transport in response to recent precipitations, coastal storm events and increased level of storms. Requireing urban design and important landscape elements, the project weaves the protection against floods in the existing urban fabric, maintaining or expanding public access and points.
Future of the fifth, New York
Transforming a corridor on the fifth avenue in Manhattan between Central Park and Bryant Park into a pedestrian -centered boulevard through street and public improvements is to involve local interested parties to create concepts designs that included wider sidewalks, seats, trees, sustainability measures and spaces for the meeting, community interaction and activation of public space. Arcadis, who offers a main consultant, leads the civil design effort to create 30% of design drawings later this summer.
How does your Dutch father’s coastal task differ from similar works in New York?
The foundations are the same, either in New York or in the Netherlands. With almost all projects, there must be a business case. There must be a reason why you do it but [you must have] Vision and vision to see what this commercial case is. Sometimes we limit this business case to the next five years or what can I pay in the next ten years.
You must have a long -term view of the solution you are contributing to the table and how the quality of life of people will improve in the coming years, far beyond a traditional business case and what this means. This is the nucleus of climate resilience in the Netherlands.

“Knowing what is the right time to provide the right information and what are the right stakeholders to participate in the process, has been very successful for us.”
—John McCarthy, President, Arcadis North America
How does this work affect the lack of support and collection of federal data?
It is an interesting challenge. If you are looking for different cities with different climate challenges, it should not be a unique size solution for each of them, so to speak. You can look at the data, here is what tells you, here is what it may seem like a storm event and what it means by the impact of the assets you have on this city.
But the level of protection you choose as a client, as a city, as a community, which you want to provide, in short, this is your decision. As you know, you can make this decision based on the amount of funding you want to invest in this.
There is still a lot of data available. We analyze the information we have available that are our own data and what we are collecting, but if it is also combined with data FEMA or data Noaa or the various agencies, we are not too worried about it. The key is that customers are willing to relate to their interest groups. We can plead as a society if a storm or event has not occurred. In my local place, in X number of years, we tend to forget what happened 10 years ago or even five years ago.
What is the secret of your success helping customers to browse the state?
Knowing when it is the right time to provide the right information, which are the right stakeholders to participate in the process, which has been very successful for us. Whether we are building a wastewater treatment plant in New York or protecting floods in lower Manhattan, the same formula is basically true.
Some customers may think that this is a step towards the end of the process … In fact, the sooner you participate in this process and, rather, bring the participation of the interested parties, the more successful.
How do world verticals help at local work?
Due to our global imprint, almost as a company we have delivered 24 hours a day. We can work in a construction place in New York State and end the day at five or six, but other team members [on the other side of the world] Could continue this job overnight. When we return to the construction site in the morning, the work has advanced in the design or the delivery model. This has been huge for us because we do not have this stop, start.
How are you ready for a potential economic fall?
We have a fairly balanced wallet. It has served us well over the years. The pieces of this portfolio will leave a little. They will replace other parts of the portfolio. We will be quite healthy during this period of time. Obviously, like anywhere else, there is some uncertainty and clients who have committed to large programs and projects seem to be advanced generally, but some of the clients wonder if they should start a new program or a new investment. There is a little uncertainty in this. We hope this will be established and we will have a little more certainty in this regard.
How do you return to the communities you work?
We have one thing known as Arcadis Sparks. It is the concept of lighting a fire, exciting people, lighting a fire and getting something to happen. … We said to each office, we would like you to get to your spark. What do you want to do in a local community and participate in a local charity … then we will invest in those offices that identify something they want to do. And they all identify something different, but we will invest in them to light this spark in their community. It’s a great way to go back, and I think it’s a great way to say that we won’t tell you what it is. We want you to bring us an idea to connect with you.
