Grill of the city

Jon Hansen

Jon Hansen

president

Loven Contracting Co.

Over the past few years, the annual rate of new project starts in Flagstaff has been moving in a positive direction. And Hansen predicts that the market will continue to rise. “We’re still seeing a fair amount of construction activity in Flagstaff and across the state,” he says. The rise in interest rates through 2023 “has definitely led to much more discussion about privately funded projects.”

Loven is currently breaking ground on the Downtown Connection Center project for the Mountain Line transit agency, which serves northern Arizona. This project includes the construction of a wooden building of approximately 20,000 square meters.

Material shortages will “even out” over time, he says, adding that “there are still certain elements that we’re very aware of, especially as we’re starting projects and making sure we extend the timelines for electrical equipment and this type of articles”.

Overall, Hansen says, “We’re pretty much like everybody else, worried about what might come in 2024 and being prepared for any kind of hiccup in the economy.”
